What’s Left? Trends and Dynamics in Europe’s East

Much has happened in the Eastern Partnership countries in the past 5-10 years. An analysis of their democratic (and social democratic) development that we had made over the course of several visits in 2011 and 2012 has thus become outdated. We thus decided to revisit five Eastern Partnership countries to take a closer look at those development, and propose a much-needed re-evaluated approach to the region for the EU and European social democrats.

We revisited the five Eastern Partnership countries – Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine – over the course of 2018 and 2019. During those visits, we spoke with politicians, journalists, pundits, academics, representatives of the civil society and of the international organisations present on the ground, to get a comprehensive picture of the developments in these countries. The resutling findings and recommendations were brought together in the present book, which was presented on 27 January 2020.
